ASSESSMENT OF THE SEISMIC VULNERABILITY OF UMBERTO I PRIMARY SCHOOL

The main core of the building dates back to 1800. In the late sixties the building was enlarged: a reinforced concrete structure was added leaning against the tuff masonry which, now, is the gym and the two lateral whings in tuff masonry were extended too.

The complex is used as primary school. The offices of the secretariat, the management offices, the canteen, the sanitary facilities and the gym are intended for school activity.

The assessment of buildings consistency was carried out by surveys which concerned infrared thermographs, endoscopic surveys, geognostic evidence.

The modeling of the structures was carried on calculation software and through the evaluation of the risk indices in terms of ground acceleration and return times.

After that, improvement and/ or anti-seismic adjustment interventions have been taken into account in terms of technical and economic possibilities.

In order to find out the degree of improvement, the modeled structure have been compared with structural interventions.

The evaluations have been filed at the Grosseto Civil Engineering Office (Genio Civile)
